Vegas Trip - Day One

Tomasz & I just returned from a four-night trip to Las Vegas. We stayed at the Planet Hollywood hotel & resort. Absolutely loved the room (especially the gorgeous bathroom!) and the amenities. The hotel was huge, with a large mall attached. We spent a lot of time walking along the strip the first morning. I woke up at 5:15 Vegas time, because of the time change. The streets were very quiet at 7:00 in the morning!

View of our hotel from Las Vegas Blvd, "The Strip".

From the other direction, at night.

The "Eiffel Tower" at Paris Las Vegas.

View of the mountains from our room. We loved seeing the mountains in every direction, wherever we went.

Mandalay Bay & Excalibur hotels - south end of the strip.

Front of New York New York hotel. It looked like loads of fun - it even had a roller coaster at the top of one of the buildings!

View to the north end of the strip.

Planet Hollywood is located near the south end of the strip, beside Paris Las Vegas, and across from the Bellagio. We could almost see the Bellagio fountains from our room. The fountains are awe inspiring. What I didn't realize is that they are choreographed to many different songs, so you can sit and watch them for hours! When the first "show" we watched began, we actually felt a cool shift in the air as the first spray of water went up into the sky. It was amazing.
If we ever return to Vegas, we'll probably plan to stay at the Bellagio.

At night, the streets came to life, with huge crowds of people, traffic, lights, and some interesting characters!

These Elvis impersonators created quite a stir.

There is a 4-story M&M's store (shared with a 4-story Coca-Cola store!) on the strip. It was like walking through a department store, where every single item had some sort of M&M's logo or character on it ... you name it, they had it!

The fabulous "rainbow wall" of M&M's ... mmmm. I couldn't resist, and bought a half pound of my favourite peanut M&M's!

Neither Tomasz or I are big gamblers, but I had to give it a try - we were in Vegas, after all! I broke even on the 25 cent slots, then decided to try my hand at Roulette. It seemed like a lot of fun, with fairly good odds. I nervously handed the dealer a $20 (as I said, we're not big gamblers!), and took my 20 $1 chips. I only sat in for about 4 or 5 rounds, but was happy to walk away with $54!!

Phew! What a relief!!
